Westland Distillery - 'Garryana: 2017 Edition' American Single Malt (750ML)

Released June 2017, this is the second release of Westland's Native Oak Garryana series. The single malt is comprised of five types of malt (Washington select pale, Munich, extra special, pale chocolate, and brown). It was aged a minimum of 38 months in three types of barrels: 52% first-fill ex-bourbon (Quercus alba), 27% virgin Quercus alba, and 21% virgin Quercus garryana, a species of white oak native to the Pacific Northwest. Only a few bottles remain.

Tasting Notes:

Nose: Elegant aroma of vanilla and toasted oak complimented by a touch of lime, succulent green berries, pears and green sweet pepper.

Palate : Light pepper carries onto fresh citrus, limes and mandarin orange sweetness. A hint of cinnamon with vanilla and oak reveals its years spent in American oak.

Finish : The full spectrum of flavors lasts well into the finish, slowly fading to expose the clean American oak foundation.

The Garryana series is unique as it utilizes local Oregon white oak casks, which contribute distinct flavors to the whisky.
