Their story
Aphros is the project of Vasco Croft, who began making wine in the Lima subregion of Vinho Verde in northern Portugal in 2009. He first called it Afros and later changed the spelling with the American market in mind.
The estate started with five hectares and has grown with leased and newly planted vines. Loureiro is the star white grape, alongside reds like Vinhão and Alvarelhão.
How it's made
The vineyards are farmed biodynamically and certified by Biodyvin, using plant-based preparations instead of synthetic sprays. Some wines are made in a cellar without electricity in beeswax-lined clay talhas, spending months on their skins without sulfites, while others are made in concrete eggs or stainless steel.
Our featured pick
Ten Loureiro Vinho Verde DOC (750ML)
$26.00
Fresh and inviting, loaded with aromas of fruit (citrus and some peach), bay leaves, linden blossoms, tense and very clean. Good mineral character, straightforward, on the palate showing fruit.

Why we carry them
We like Aphros for showing how serious Vinho Verde can be. The Loureiro is crisp and floral, a great match for seafood.
