Dashfire

Minnesota's first bitters, barrel-aged on a bourbon base.

Their story

Dashfire is the project of Lee Egbert, a former Boy Scout who loved identifying barks and plants. He later spent a year and a half in China, where he learned how herbs and roots are used in traditional medicine, and those flavors stuck with him.

Egbert originally set out to open a distillery, and while that plan took shape he started making bitters. Dashfire became the first bitters produced in Minnesota, sold first around the Twin Cities.

His first release was an orange bitters, followed by Mr. Lee's Ancient Chinese Secret, a five-spice blend with anise and Sichuan peppercorn.

How it's made

Instead of the usual neutral grain spirit, Egbert built his orange bitters on bourbon, with fresh orange zest and spices. The bitters then rest in small toasted and charred oak barrels, which add a woody, vanilla finish.

I wanted to honor the flavor of the orange.

Why we carry them

A few dashes of Dashfire orange bitters give an Old Fashioned real depth, and the barrel aging makes it a natural match for whiskey.
