Their story
Rishi was founded in Milwaukee in 1997 by Joshua Kaiser, who started out as Diaspora Tea & Herb Company in a windowless warehouse in the Third Ward. His high school friend Benjamin Harrison joined to build the brand while Kaiser traveled to tea gardens.
The Rishi name followed by 1999. Today the company works from a roughly 50,000-square-foot facility in the Menomonee Valley with a blending lab and tasting room.
How it's made
Rishi committed to organic sourcing early and imports hundreds of tons of organic tea and herbs each year from more than 20 countries, including long-term relationships with individual farmers. Early blends were mixed by hand in a steel bowl, and today a tea master designs recipes in the Milwaukee lab. Its tea bags are made from plant-based material.
