Their story

Aberlour Distillery sits in the village of Aberlour in Speyside, where the Lour burn meets the River Spey. Its water comes from springs on the site, including St. Drostan's Well, named for an early monk.

James Fleming built the distillery in 1879, though distilling in the village goes back earlier in the century. A fire in the 1890s led to a rebuild in 1898, and much of the Victorian distillery seen today dates from then.

Campbell Distillers bought Aberlour in 1945, and Pernod Ricard took over in 1974. It is now part of Chivas Brothers.

How it's made

Aberlour uses unpeated malt and a 48-hour fermentation, then distills in two pairs of copper pot stills. The spirit is matured in both ex-bourbon and sherry casks, and the cask strength A'bunadh is aged entirely in sherry casks.

Why we carry them

We send sherry lovers straight to Aberlour, especially the A'bunadh. It's a rich, fruity dram that feels like a treat.
