Abstinence is a Cape Town company making distilled non-alcoholic spirits that draw on the plants of South Africa's Western Cape. Each bottle centers on local botanicals such as honeybush, buchu and rose geranium, alongside citrus and classic gin spices.
The range has grown to include Cape Citrus, Cape Spice and Cape Fynbos, plus a blood orange aperitif, and the brand has picked up awards and international distribution.
How it's made
The botanicals are macerated and infused, then hydro distilled to pull out their flavor without alcohol. Because there is no alcohol to carry the aromas, the team uses larger amounts of each botanical. The spirits contain no sugar, alcohol or added coloring.
