Their story

Bulleit is the work of Tom Bulleit, a Kentucky lawyer who in 1987 set out to revive a bourbon associated with his great-great-grandfather, Augustus Bulleit, a 19th-century tavern keeper said to have made whiskey until his death in 1860.

Seagram bought the brand in 1997, and it passed to Diageo when that company acquired Seagram's spirits business. Diageo opened the Bulleit Distilling Company just outside Shelbyville, Kentucky, in 2017, giving the brand its own home in bourbon country.

How it's made

Bulleit Bourbon is made from a mash bill of roughly 68 percent corn, 28 percent rye, and 4 percent malted barley, giving it more spice than many bourbons. It is distilled in Kentucky and aged in new charred oak barrels. Bulleit Rye, made with 95 percent rye, is produced in Indiana.

Why we carry them

We like Bulleit as a mixing bourbon with enough rye spice to stand up in an Old Fashioned or a Manhattan. It is a solid, familiar choice for a home bar.
