Their story

Château de Laubade sits in Sorbets, in the Gers, in the heart of Bas-Armagnac. The estate dates to 1870 and has belonged to the Lesgourgues family for three generations. Today Denis Lesgourgues runs it alongside his sister Jeanne and brother Arnaud.

The property farms about 105 hectares of vines in a single block, a rare setup in a region of small growers. The family has also championed Baco, a hardy local variety, and is bringing back older grapes once common in Gascony.

How it's made

Baco, Ugni Blanc, Folle Blanche and Colombard are fermented into white wine without sulfites and distilled right away in a continuous Armagnac still, one variety at a time. The spirits then age separately by variety and vintage in nearly 3,000 Gascon oak barrels before the cellar master blends them.

Why we carry them

We like Laubade as an introduction to Armagnac, and its vintage bottlings make a memorable birth-year gift.
