Their story
Chocolat Moderne is the work of Joan Coukos, who spent years in banking, including six years in Moscow, before returning to Wall Street in 1999.
A trip to Brussels in December 2000 changed her direction. Taken with the handmade chocolates she found there, she began working out recipes in her small Manhattan kitchen, with coworkers as her first tasters. Their response pushed her to learn bonbon-making properly.
Today the company makes its chocolates in Manhattan's Flatiron District, and two of its bars have won sofi awards from the Specialty Food Association.
How it's made
Chocolates are tempered and made in the company's own workroom in the Flatiron District. The range runs from filled bonbons to bars with flavors like lime caramel and blood orange bergamot caramel.

Why we carry them
We like the playful flavors here, especially the caramel bars. A box of bonbons makes a thoughtful gift that still feels personal.
