Their story
Common Ground Spirits was founded in Berkeley in 2020 by Tory Brown and Julian Peebles, two friends who left careers in tech to start a business of their own. They wanted a company that would bring people together, and one they could hand down to their families.
Their long-term goal is a California bourbon, but since good bourbon takes years to age, they launched with two gins to get the brand going.
How it's made
Gin 1, inspired by a drink Peebles had in Ireland, uses basil, elderflower and agave. Gin 2 is savory, with black currant, thyme and peppercorn. The bourbon mash is 76 percent corn, 14 percent rye and 10 percent malted barley, aged in American white oak.
Our featured pick
Black Currant & Thyme Gin (750ML)
$45.00
Rooted in a love of food and cooking, this gin boasts a savory profile. There are vivid notes of citrus on the nose, dried fruit and herbs on the palate, with a nice lingering finish of peppercorn.

Why we carry them
We love supporting a young East Bay distillery, and these gins have flavors you will not find anywhere else. Gin 2 makes a memorable martini.
