Their story

Dandies comes from Chicago Vegan Foods, started in 2001 by Ryan Howard and Dan Ziegler. The two came up through the animal rights movement of the 1990s and wanted a practical way to put those values to work, by making foods that skipped animal ingredients without asking anyone to give anything up.

Marshmallows were a natural target, since most are made with gelatin. Dandies became the company's best-known product and is now sold at grocers across the US and Canada and abroad.

The company is still family-owned and self-funded, and it also makes vegan cheese and frozen desserts under other brand names.

How it's made

Dandies are made without gelatin, so they are fully plant-based and free of common allergens. The company produces them in its own facility and offers several sizes and flavors, including a maple version.

We started this company to make plant-based foods that everyone could enjoy while using it as a springboard to educate.

Why we carry them

Dandies toast up beautifully over a fire and melt into hot chocolate, so nobody at the s'mores table has to sit out.
