Their story

DRAM Apothecary is run by Shae Whitney and Brady Becker, partners in life and business. They launched in Denver in 2011 and later moved into a 19th-century building in Silver Plume, a tiny former mining town at about 9,100 feet off Interstate 70. The building once held a saloon and later a bakery.

Whitney forages many of the botanicals in the mountains around town, favoring perennial plants and avoiding roots so the plants can keep growing. Everything is handmade in the Silver Plume building and sold to shops and bars around the country.

How it's made

Wild-gathered plants like gentian and dandelion steep for weeks or months in high-proof neutral spirit to make the bitters. Citrus comes whole and fresh from small organic growers in Ojai, California, and other ingredients come from organic and fair trade suppliers. The range includes bitters, pine syrup, switchels and sodas.

We prefer to use perennial plants that offer bitter qualities from their leaves, stems, and flowers.

Why we carry them

We love DRAM for bitters and syrups that taste like the mountains they come from. A few dashes will lift a simple Old Fashioned.
