Their story
El Pintor is a small series of agave spirits shaped by Guillermo Barroso, described as the second certified maestro tequilero in the world. The brand calls its bottlings author spirits, reflecting one maker's point of view.
The range covers a tequila from Jalisco and a mezcal from Yautepec, Oaxaca. Its labels, designed by the studio Anagrama, are known for their painterly look, a nod to the brand's name.
How it's made
The mezcal is an ensamble of espadín and wild cuishe agave. The plants are cooked in an earth pit, fermented with wild airborne yeast, crushed by tahona and distilled twice in copper.
Why we carry them
We like El Pintor for letting you taste one maker's take on both tequila and mezcal. Try them side by side.
