Their story

Espolòn was launched in 1998 by master distiller Cirilo Oropeza, who spent decades studying distillation before creating the brand. It is made at Destiladora San Nicolás, a purpose-built distillery in the Los Altos highlands of Jalisco.

The bottles are known for their artwork, which honors the 19th-century Mexican printmaker José Guadalupe Posada and features Ramón the rooster, the brand's mascot. Espolòn is now part of Campari Group.

How it's made

The tequila uses 100% blue Weber agave grown at high altitude in Los Altos. The agave hearts are cut into quarters and cooked for about 22 hours, then distilled in both column and pot stills. Reposado rests a few months in lightly charred American oak, and añejo finishes in ex-bourbon barrels.

Yeast sways to the rhythm of music.

Why we carry them

Espolòn is a reliable, well-priced tequila for mixing, and the labels are a small work of art. We like the blanco for margaritas and the reposado on the rocks.
