Their story

Firestone Walker began in 1996 on the Firestone family vineyard in Santa Barbara County, where Adam Firestone and David Walker brewed their first beer, Double Barrel Ale. In 2001 they moved the main brewery to Paso Robles, which remains home today.

The brewery grew into one of California's best-known craft names, with Union Jack IPA, the 805 blonde ale and Mind Haze among its big sellers. Duvel Moortgat became the majority owner in 2015, with the founders staying on. In 2026 Firestone Walker and Duvel Moortgat USA agreed to buy Stone Brewing from Sapporo.

How it's made

Firestone Walker is one of the few modern brewers still fermenting some beer in a linked system of oak barrels, a variation of the old Burton Union method. Its Barrelworks site in Buellton handles wild and sour beers, and a small Venice brewhouse is used for experiments.

Why we carry them

Firestone Walker covers a lot of ground, from an easy 805 at a barbecue to a bottle of Parabola to save. Pivo Pils is a great pick for anyone who likes a hoppy lager.
