Their story

Gordon Biersch began in 1988, when brewer Dan Gordon and restaurateur Dean Biersch opened their first brewery restaurant in Palo Alto. Gordon had trained in brewing at the Technical University of Munich in Weihenstephan, and German lagers have been the heart of the business ever since.

In 1997 the company opened a full production brewery in San Jose, now one of the largest in the Bay Area. The restaurants were sold off in 1999 and run separately, while the brewery changed hands over the years until Dan Gordon regained majority control with a group of investors in 2019.

How it's made

The beers follow Germany's traditional purity standard, using only malt, hops, yeast and water. The San Jose brewery brews and packages its own lagers and also brews for other beer companies.

Why we carry them

For clean, classic German-style lager made close to home, Gordon Biersch is hard to beat. We like these beers with anything off the grill.
