Haiken
A Japanese rice vodka built on Hyogo rice and Mt. Katsuragi water.
- Founded by
- Julious Grant (founder of ICONIC Spirits)
Their story
Haiken comes from ICONIC Spirits, the Japanese spirits arm of The Brand House Group, led by founder and chairman Julious Grant. Grant has spent recent years bringing small Japanese producers' spirits to American shelves, and Haiken was one of the bottles that introduced the portfolio in the US.
The brand keeps its story simple: two ingredients it treats as fixed, rice grown in Hyogo Prefecture and water drawn from Mt. Katsuragi. Alongside the Original, Haiken also makes Yuzu and Lychee versions infused with fruit.
How it's made
Haiken is distilled in Japan from rice grown in Hyogo and cut with water from Mt. Katsuragi. The producer describes a traditional, small-scale process but does not publish detailed distillation specs. The Yuzu and Lychee expressions are flavored with fruit.
Why we carry them
We like Haiken for drinkers who want a softer, rice-based vodka with a sense of place. Try it in a highball with plenty of ice and a twist of citrus.
