Their story
Hamilton rums are the work of Ed Hamilton, a Florida native known in the rum world as the "Minister of Rum." In the 1980s he lived on a sailboat in the Caribbean, traveling island to island and getting to know the distilleries firsthand.
He began writing about rum in the 1990s, earned an importer's license in 2003 to bring Martinique rums into the US, and in 2014 started his Ministry of Rum Collection. The range draws on distilleries across the Caribbean and South America, including Jamaica and Guyana, and part of its purpose was to fill the gap left when Lemon Hart 151 disappeared from shelves.
How it's made
Hamilton does not run a distillery. Ed Hamilton buys rum directly from producers such as Demerara Distillers in Guyana and Jamaican estates, then blends and bottles it under his own label. Strengths and ages vary by bottling, from standard-proof blends to overproof rums for tiki drinks.
Why we carry them
We trust Ed Hamilton's palate; his bottles are a smart way to taste specific Caribbean rum styles. The overproofs are a go-to for tiki cocktails.
