Their story
Heaven Hill was founded in Bardstown, Kentucky, in 1935, just after Prohibition, by a group of investors that included distiller Joseph L. Beam and the Shapira brothers. The Shapiras soon bought out their partners, and their descendants still own and run the company.
For much of its history the master distillers came from the Beam family. In 1996 a fire destroyed the Bardstown production plant and roughly 90,000 barrels of whiskey, and in 1999 the company bought the Bernheim distillery in Louisville, where it now makes its whiskey.
How it's made
Heaven Hill mashes, ferments and distills at the Bernheim distillery in Louisville, then trucks the new spirit to Bardstown to age in its rickhouses. Bottling and shipping also happen in Bardstown. Its range includes Evan Williams, Elijah Craig, Larceny and Old Fitzgerald.
