Their story
Leopold Bros. is run by brothers Todd and Scott Leopold. Todd handles brewing and distilling, while Scott, an environmental engineer, helped design the facility. They opened in 1999 as a brewpub in a renovated brake factory in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and later added a small distillery.
In 2008 they closed the Ann Arbor site, left brewing behind and moved to Denver to focus on spirits. The family-owned distillery in northeast Denver now makes more than 20 products, from whiskey and gin to absinthe, fernet and fruit liqueurs.
How it's made
Leopold Bros. has the largest traditional floor-malting room of any American distillery, where it malts Colorado barley on site, a practice rarely seen outside Scotland. Everything is made in small batches, and the liqueur range includes maraschino, cranberry and tart cherry.
Our featured pick
Three Chamber Bottled-In-Bond Rye (750ML)
$225.00
There are few people in American distilling as creative and thoughtful as Todd Leopold. This Three-Chamber Rye whiskey is one of the most innovative bottles we've ever found. With a nod to 19th century production and flavor Todd's managed to create an entirely new narrative on tradition. Each bottle of this rare collector's edition is hand signed by the distiller.
Why we carry them
We admire Leopold Bros. for doing things the slow way, starting with their own malt. Their maraschino liqueur and fernet are favorites for anyone building a home bar.
