Their story
Lux Row Distillers sits in Bardstown, Kentucky, a few miles from some of the oldest names in bourbon. It was built by Luxco, a St. Louis spirits company, to give its whiskey brands a home of their own after years of being made at other distilleries.
The distillery filled its first barrel in January 2018 and opened its visitor center that spring as a stop on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. Longtime Luxco head distiller John Rempe, creator of Blood Oath, led production.
In 2021 MGP Ingredients agreed to buy Luxco, Lux Row included, for $475 million. The distillery now makes bourbons such as Ezra Brooks, Rebel, David Nicholson and Blood Oath.
How it's made
Lux Row runs a 36-inch column still and twelve 8,000-gallon fermenters, with capacity for more than a million proof gallons a year. Barrels age in rickhouses on the Bardstown site, with room planned for more. The setup allows for new recipes, including wheated whiskey.
Our featured pick
Yellowstone: 2023 Bourbon Finished in Tokaji Casks (750ML)
$349.99
While each release of Yellowstone Limited Edition is different, one thing always remains the same: a promise of top-shelf flavor with humble complexities. This year’s offering features a delicately balanced blend of 7-year, 15-year and 16-year-aged bourbons, finished in Marsala Superiore casks. Marsala Superiore is a dry, sweet wine produced in Italy and imparts tangy flavors of dried fruits and citrus.
Our brands never really had a home
Why we carry them
We like Lux Row's bourbons for solid, affordable everyday sipping. Ezra Brooks and Rebel are easy to recommend for a highball.
