Their story
Distilling in the town of Midleton, east of Cork city, goes back to 1825, when the Murphy family took over the site. In 1867 it joined other local distilleries to form the Cork Distilleries Company, and in 1966 that company merged with John Power & Son and John Jameson & Son to create Irish Distillers.
The old distillery ran for 150 years before closing in 1975, when the Midleton site was expanded to take in the Jameson and Powers distilling that had been done in Dublin. Today it is the home of many of Ireland's best-known whiskeys, including Jameson, Redbreast, Powers, Midleton Very Rare and the Spot whiskeys. Midleton marked 200 years of distilling in 2025.
How it's made
Midleton produces the whiskeys for a long list of Irish Distillers brands on one site, from Jameson and Powers to Redbreast and Midleton Very Rare. For its 200th anniversary it released a 50-year-old whiskey distilled in the original Old Midleton Distillery.
