Their story

Old Carter is the work of Mark Carter, a longtime beverage and hospitality figure who began in wine. He made Napa Valley wines under the Carter Cellars label before turning to whiskey.

Carter helped revive Kentucky Owl, a historic bourbon name, alongside the son of a Kentucky friend. The brand built a devoted following and was sold in 2017, after which Carter started Old Carter.

He oversees every part of the business himself, releasing straight bourbons, ryes and American whiskeys as single barrels and small batches.

How it's made

Carter selects individual barrels and blends them into small batches, each with its own profile. Every release is bottled at barrel strength with no chill filtering, and he designs and handwrites each label.

Why we carry them

We keep an eye out for each new Old Carter release because the batches are small and go quickly. They are big, full-proof whiskeys for anyone who likes to add their own drop of water.
