Their story
Friends Jesse Pine and Mat Robar dreamed up Pure Project Brewing while backpacking in the Colorado Rockies in 2013. The original idea was a brewery in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica, and that town's relaxed, community-first feel stayed with them.
Costa Rica didn't work out, so the pair returned to San Diego, brought on brewmaster Winslow Sawyer in late 2015, and opened their doors on January 30, 2016. The brewery has since grown to several taprooms across San Diego County.
Pure Project joined 1% for the Planet on day one. The founders see protecting the outdoors they love as part of the job, not an extra.
How it's made
Recipes follow the seasons, using local and organic grain, hops and fruit where possible. The team avoids chemicals and fining agents, treating beer as an agricultural product that should taste of its ingredients.
