Their story

450 North Brewing Co. sits on the Simmons family farm outside Columbus, Indiana, on the county road that gives the brewery its name. The land has been in the family for more than a century, and for years it was planted mostly in corn and soybeans.

In 1998 David and Brenda Simmons tried a few acres of grapes, and the experiment became Simmons Winery. A brick-oven pizza restaurant followed in 2012, and beer came with it. Their son Aaron started brewing with his dad on a small basement setup, and he now runs the beer side while his siblings help with cider, wine, design and the dining room.

Today the farm pours beer, wine and hard cider side by side, and hosts a corn maze beer festival each fall.

How it's made

Beer is brewed on site at the farm, with a focus on hazy IPAs and fruited Berliner weisse, alongside farmhouse ales and big stouts. The family's hard ciders are made from Indiana apples.

Why we carry them

We like that this is a true farm operation, where the same family grows, brews and pours. Their hazy IPAs and fruited sours are a fun look at what's happening in Midwest craft beer.
