Their story

Aberfeldy Distillery stands in the Perthshire town of Aberfeldy in the Scottish Highlands, close to where John Dewar was born in 1805. Dewar went on to open a wine and spirits shop in Perth, and the family business grew into one of Scotland's best-known whisky names.

His sons, John Alexander and Tommy Dewar, built the distillery in 1898 to supply malt whisky for their fast-growing blends. The buildings were designed by Charles Doig, the architect behind many Scottish distilleries.

The distillery joined the Distillers Company in 1925 and doubled in size in 1972. Bacardi bought the Dewar's business in 1998, and Aberfeldy now also releases its own single malts alongside its work for Dewar's.

How it's made

Aberfeldy draws its water from the Pitilie Burn, which runs beside the distillery. The single malt is distilled in traditional copper pot stills and matured in oak casks, and much of the spirit still goes into Dewar's blends.

Why we carry them

We point people to the Aberfeldy 12 when they want an easygoing, honeyed Highland malt. It's a gentle starting place for anyone new to Scotch.
