Their story

Villa Picta is the project of Paolo Pasini, a young grower farming about three hectares of family land in a river valley near Mantua, in southern Lombardy. The vineyards sit close to where Lombardy meets the Veneto and Emilia-Romagna.

New York sommelier and author Amanda Smeltz later joined Paolo, and 2024 was the first vintage they made together.

How it's made

Paolo works mainly with local grapes from the Lambrusco family, and he is also testing other varieties that may suit the site. The wines are made with a low-intervention approach, and the lineup leans experimental.

Why we carry them

We like Villa Picta for lively, honest wines from a corner of Italy most people overlook. Chill a bottle and drink it with salumi.
