Their story
Alexakis Winery was founded by Stelios Alexakis, an oenologist and chemical engineer, with his wife Sophia overseeing quality control. It has grown into the largest private winery on Crete.
Today a second generation runs much of the business. Their children Apostolos and Lazaros, both trained oenologists, lead production and product design, and the wines reach markets well beyond Greece, including the United States.
How it's made
Rather than relying on one estate, Alexakis has built long relationships with growers across Crete and uses them to choose vineyards suited to each wine. The focus is on the island's own grapes, such as Vidiano, Vilana, Athiri and Kotsifali, alongside Assyrtiko and Syrah, made in a modern cellar.
Our featured pick
Assyrtiko (750ML)
$24.00
Crisp and coastal, this Cretan Assyrtiko brings lemon peel, white pepper, and sea-salt minerality. Grecian zest in every sip.

Why we carry them
If you have never tried Vidiano, this is where we would start. It is a bright, easygoing introduction to Cretan white wine.
