Sicilian amaro made with blood oranges and wild herbs from Mount Etna.
- Based in
- Mount Etna area, Sicily
Their story
Amara comes from the slopes of Mount Etna, in Contrada San Martino near Misterbianco, Sicily. It grew out of a farming family's citrus groves, turning their harvest into a line of liqueurs.
The star of every bottle is Arancia Rossa di Sicilia, the protected blood orange grown in the volcanic soils around Etna.
How it's made
Blood orange peels are infused several times in agricultural alcohol, along with wild Etna herbs, and the liqueur is brought to strength with Etna spring water. Batches are small, and other bottlings use Etna broom flowers or orange tree bark saved from pruning and rested for months.

Why we carry them
Amara is the amaro we reach for when someone says they find amari too bitter. The blood orange makes it bright and easy to sip after dinner.
