Their story
Catherine and Pierre Breton make wine in Restigné, a small village just east of Bourgueil on the north side of the Loire. The Breton family has farmed here since 1886, and the couple took over in the late 1980s.
They were early adopters of organic farming in the Loire, earning certification in 1991 and moving into biodynamics soon after. Today they farm about 17 hectares across Bourgueil, Chinon and Vouvray.
How it's made
Cabernet Franc leads, with Chenin Blanc and Grolleau as well. The Bretons ferment with native yeasts, add nothing chemical, and use little or no sulfur depending on the wine, with no fining and minimal filtration.
Why we carry them
The Bretons are a great place to start with Loire Cabernet Franc. Their reds are fresh and juicy, and we like them with a slight chill.
