Their story
Siblings Giuseppe, Alfio and Laura Cavallotto run the family estate on the Bricco Boschis hill in Castiglione Falletto, in the heart of Barolo. They are the fourth generation here.
Their great-grandfather Giacomo bought the property from the Boschis family in 1928. In the 1960s and 70s, their father Olivio and uncle Gildo were early to look into natural farming, at a time when few in the area did.
Today the estate covers about 22 hectares around the hill.
How it's made
Since the mid-1970s the family has farmed without chemical herbicides, fungicides or pesticides, using cover crops as green manure, and has worked to cut copper use since 2010. Wines ferment with native yeast, and the Barolo ages in large casks in a cellar dug deep into the hill.
Our featured pick
Superiore Vigna Cuculo Barbera dAlba (750ML)
$54.00
The wine tends to be less powerful and more floral, and is perfect for drinking on a slightly earlier timescale than the San Giuseppe.

Why we carry them
Cavallotto is one of the Barolo houses we point to when someone wants the traditional style. The Barbera and Dolcetto are also great everyday bottles.
