Their story
China Live sits on Broadway in San Francisco's Chinatown, a few blocks from our own neighborhoods. It was created by chef George Chen, who runs the place with his wife and partner, Cindy Wong-Chen.
The first floor opened in March 2017 as a multi-level dining and retail space, with open kitchens showing off different Chinese cooking styles. From the start, Chen wanted a market alongside the restaurant so guests could take home the ingredients behind the food.
Today the China Live Shop carries spices, teas, cookware and condiments chosen by the Chens, along with sauces made in-house.
How it's made
Several products are made on site at China Live, including Chef Chen's chili crisp and a chili bean sauce, the same condiments used in the restaurant's kitchen. The rest of the shop is stocked with ingredients and teas the Chens source themselves.
Our featured pick
Peking Duck Fat Popcorn (8OZ)
$14.95
China Live's signature sweet and savory popcorn - what dreams are made of!
I wanted to do a marketplace to show people ingredients matter, especially in Chinese food.
Why we carry them
We love carrying something from just down the road in Chinatown. A spoonful of the chili crisp over noodles, rice or eggs is an easy way to try it.
