Their story

Edmund Haynes Taylor Jr. started as a banker financing distilleries and became one of Kentucky's most influential distillers. In 1869 he bought the Leestown Distillery in Frankfort and renamed it O.F.C., for Old Fire Copper. After financial trouble, fire and rebuilding, that site grew into what is now Buffalo Trace.

Taylor later built the castle-like Old Taylor distillery and was a leading force behind the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897, which set standards to protect whiskey from adulteration. Buffalo Trace acquired the Old Taylor label in 2006 and went on to create the Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. line of limited bourbons in his name.

How it's made

The whiskeys are distilled and aged at Buffalo Trace in Frankfort, Kentucky. Most releases follow the bottled-in-bond rules Taylor fought for, meaning the product of one distilling season, aged at least four years in a bonded warehouse and bottled at 100 proof, with barrel proof and other special editions released from time to time.

Why we carry them

E.H. Taylor bottles are hard to find, so when we have them, they go quickly. The Small Batch is a great way to taste a piece of bourbon history.
