Their story

Stanislas Wallut runs Domaine de Villeneuve, an 8.4-hectare estate in the north of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, near Château de Beaucastel and Mont Redon. The name comes from a small village just over the bridge from Avignon.

The Arnaux family owned the estate until 1993, when Wallut and his business partner, Philippe du Roy de Blicquy, bought it in poor condition. Wallut became sole owner in 2003, and the vineyards and winery were rebuilt from the ground up.

How it's made

Vines range from about 30 to more than 100 years old, mostly Grenache with Mourvèdre, Syrah, Cinsault and Clairette, and are farmed biodynamically with Ecocert and Biodyvin certification. The winery was rebuilt underground on three levels so everything moves by gravity. Wines ferment in cement and age in vats, demi-muids and old barrels, with the estate moving away from barrel aging.

Why we carry them

Villeneuve's Châteauneuf has the depth of old vines with a freshness we don't always find in this appellation.
