Their story

Domaine des Malandes is run by siblings Richard Rottiers and Amandine Marchive, who took over from their mother, Lyne Marchive, when she retired in 2018. Oenologist Guénolé Breteaudeau has worked alongside the family since 2006.

Lyne, born a Tremblay, was the driving force behind the domaine for decades, and most of its vineyards were assembled by André Tremblay in the 1940s and 1950s. Today the estate covers 29 hectares, including grand crus Les Clos and Vaudésir and premier crus such as Côte de Léchet, Fourchaume, Montmains, Vau de Vey and Mont de Milieu.

How it's made

The vineyards were converted to organic farming, with certification in 2022, and Côte de Léchet and Vaudésir are ploughed by horse. Fermentations use yeasts selected from the estate's own populations. Simpler wines stay in stainless steel, while the top crus see a share of barrel, from about a quarter up to all of Les Clos, without obvious oak flavor.

Why we carry them

Malandes covers the whole Chablis ladder, so we find it a good house for exploring how the region's sites differ.
