Their story
Lise and Bertrand Jousset founded their domaine in Montlouis-sur-Loire in 2004. Bertrand came to wine after a military career, studying oenology in Amboise and working at Domaine des Maisons Brûlées and other estates in the Loire and Switzerland. Lise, a former Paris sommelière, handles promoting and selling the wines.
They farm 8 hectares spread over 27 parcels, mostly Chenin Blanc with some Chardonnay, Gamay and Grolleau, after trimming the vineyard to cope better with frost.
How it's made
The vines have been certified organic since 2008 and are now farmed biodynamically, with horses working the Clos aux Renards parcel and every grape picked by hand. Each parcel is vinified separately and moved by gravity, and the reds go through carbonic maceration. Wines age in 225 to 600 liter barrels with little new oak, very little sulfur and no fining.
Why we carry them
From the sparkling Bubulle to the old-vine Clos aux Renards, the Joussets show how much range Chenin Blanc has.
