Their story

Dr. Bronner's began with Emanuel Bronner, a third-generation master soapmaker from a German-Jewish family whose soapmaking started in Laupheim, Germany, in 1858. He emigrated to the United States in 1929. His parents were later killed in the Holocaust, and he founded his own company in California in 1948.

Bronner filled his labels with his message of unity, summed up as "We are All-One or None!" The company is still run by his family, with grandson David Bronner as CEO, and the soaps are sold around the world.

The company now also makes organic, fair trade dark chocolate bars, introduced in 2021.

How it's made

Dr. Bronner's has been USDA certified organic since 2003 and became a Fair Trade certified company in 2007. It sources key oils through its own projects, including coconut oil from Sri Lanka and mint oil from India, and many ingredients carry Regenerative Organic Certification. Its chocolate bars are organic, fair trade and vegan.

Why we carry them

We carry Dr. Bronner's because few companies have put this much work into fair, organic sourcing. Try the dark chocolate bars too.
