Their story

Frontera Foods grew out of the Chicago kitchens of chef Rick Bayless, who has spent his career cooking and teaching the regional food of Mexico. In 1996 he teamed up with business partner Manny Valdes to bottle that cooking for home kitchens.

The line grew to more than 50 products, from salsas and taco skillet sauces to chips and meal kits, alongside sister brands Red Fork and Salpica.

In 2016 Conagra bought the Frontera packaged foods business. The Bayless restaurants were not part of the sale, and Bayless and Valdes stayed on to support the brand.

How it's made

The recipes are built on the regional Mexican cooking Bayless is known for, translated into jarred salsas, skillet and cooking sauces, and snacks. Each product is designed to deliver the depth of a long-cooked sauce so home cooks can finish a dish quickly.

This is the start of a new era for Frontera, Salpica and Red Fork, and we are thrilled.

Why we carry them

We keep Frontera on hand for weeknights when we want real chile flavor without starting from scratch. The skillet sauces turn a pound of chicken into dinner in minutes.
