Their story

Grounded Wine Co. is led by Josh Phelps, a Napa native who grew up helping in the cellar alongside his father, Chris Phelps. Chris trained at UC Davis and in Bordeaux, worked at Petrus, and was the founding winemaker at Dominus Estate. He now oversees winemaking and blending for Grounded.

Josh started his first wine label as a college senior project and ran it for years before launching Grounded. The company now makes several labels from California, Washington, and Oregon, including Steady State from Napa Valley, Public Radio from Paso Robles, and Landform from the Willamette Valley.

How it's made

Grounded buys fruit from growers the Phelps family knows well across the West Coast, with a focus on sustainably certified and, where possible, organic vineyards. The wines are made in a clean, restrained style, and some, like the Landform Pinot Noir, are fermented with native yeast in open-top vessels.

The wines are clean, balanced, pure wines of place that are not manipulated in any way.

Why we carry them

Grounded makes the kind of honest, well-priced bottles we like to recommend for dinner, with real winemaking pedigree behind them.
