Their story
Haus was started in Healdsburg in 2019 by Helena Price Hambrecht, who came from Silicon Valley brand work, and Woody Hambrecht, a third-generation winemaker whose family has farmed a Sonoma County ranch since the 1970s. They wanted a lighter, less sugary alternative to traditional liqueurs and cocktails.
The company shut down in August 2022 after its lead investor pulled out of a funding round. In 2023 the San Francisco company The Naked Market bought the brand and brought Haus back to market.
How it's made
Haus aperitifs start with a grape base and are flavored with botanicals, fruit and spices, such as heirloom cherries, anise and cocoa nibs in the Spiced Cherry. The recipes cut back on the sugar and bitterness of classic aperitifs and keep alcohol low.
We wanted a better way to drink.
Why we carry them
We like Haus for an easy low-alcohol pour, over ice or topped with soda. It is a good fit for long dinners when you want to pace yourself.
