Their story
Haus Barhyte comes from Barhyte Specialty Foods, which Jan and Suzie Barhyte started in Pendleton, Oregon, in 1982 to sell mustard. The family traces its recipe back to German ancestors who sold mustard in America around the Revolutionary War.
The business began with a five-gallon mixer and hand-filled bottles. Their son Chris later took over as CEO and his brother Mike runs the Pendleton factory, while Suzie long led the recipe work in the test kitchen.
How it's made
The mustards are made in the family's Pendleton plant in eastern Oregon. Barhyte has contracted with nearby farms for mustard seed and has used wind-powered electricity at its facility.
Why we carry them
We like Haus Barhyte for a family-made mustard with real Northwest roots. Put it on a cheese board or a bratwurst.
