Their story
Peter Karpushin and his family came to the United States from Ukraine about three decades ago and bought a farm in Ojai, California, where they grow the valley's well-known Pixie tangerines.
Marmalade Grove came out of a bad season. During the pandemic the farm lost its marketing partner, supply chains broke down, and a glut of Central Valley citrus left the family with more than 200,000 pounds of tangerines and no one to buy them. They rented a refrigerated container, called dozens of packing houses that all said no, and launched their own marmalade about six weeks later. Early batches were washed in the family kitchen and dried in laundry baskets.
How it's made
The fruit is picked and packed by the farm's own crew, mainly Ojai Pixie tangerines along with other citrus. Each jar is made by hand in small batches from fresh fruit, using an old family-style recipe that aims for a brighter, lighter marmalade than the classic bitter kind.

Why we carry them
We love a jam with a story this close to the farm. These marmalades are bright and not too sweet, and great on toast or with a soft cheese.
