Their story
Ælred is the aperitif and spirits line from Eyguebelle, a house based in Valaurie in the Drôme Provençale, in southeastern France. Eyguebelle is also known for its syrups.
The house has deep roots in the region, and many of its recipes trace back to monks who first created them. The Ælred range builds on that heritage with aperitifs and liqueurs made from the fruit and nuts of Provence and its neighbors.
How it's made
The range includes aperitifs made from fruit such as Provence melons and nectarines, along with liqueurs like a chestnut liqueur made from Ardèche chestnuts. For that liqueur, chestnuts are macerated in alcohol with cane sugar and vanilla, then distilled in a copper still.
Our featured pick
Melon LAperitif (700ML)
$35.00
Made from the Cavaillon Melon, which bears resemblance to the cantaloupe, but with a deeply aromatic flesh that is sweet and mildly acidic.
Why we carry them
We love Ælred for a bright, fruity aperitif that feels like summer in the south of France. Try the nectarine with sparkling wine or soda over ice.
