Their story
Almanac was started in 2010 by Jesse Friedman and Damian Fagan, two homebrewers who met at a club and shared a love of the Bay Area's farm-driven food scene. Inspired by Alice Waters, they wanted beer that tracked the seasons the way a good menu does.
They opened a taproom in San Francisco's Mission District in 2016 and in 2018 moved into a large brewery and taproom in a former Navy hangar in Alameda. Fagan continues to lead the company, which has been adding new East Bay locations.
How it's made
Almanac sources fruit, grains and herbs from family farms in Northern California. Its farm-to-barrel line ages beer in oak, often for a year or more, and the brewery is best known for its sour and farmhouse ales, alongside IPAs and lagers.
Our featured pick
Love Hazy IPA (16OZ)
$7.00
Built on a simple base of pilsner malt and rolled oats, this IPA has a pillowy mouthfeel and is double-dry hopped with Mosaic, Citra, and Sabro. Flavors of mango, cantaloupe, and citrus will keep you.
Why we carry them
Almanac's fruited sours taste like a trip to a Bay Area farmers market. We like them with food, the way the founders intended.
