Their story

South 40 Snacks was founded in 2019 by Josh Schroeter, who earlier co-founded Sahale Snacks and sold it to J.M. Smucker in 2014. He started South 40 with a single product, sunflower seeds, and a belief that snacks did not need long ingredient lists.

The line has since grown to include nut bars and fruit bars, often sold in the produce section rather than the snack aisle. Schroeter has built the brand around partnerships with growers and longtime producers, so each item comes with a clear origin.

How it's made

The sunflower seeds are an imported variety that is roasted and salted. The nut bars come from a Greek family that has made them for decades, with South 40 holding the North American license. The fruit bars are produced with a farming partner in Ghana that focuses on sustainability and community.

Why we carry them

We appreciate snacks with short ingredient lists and real sourcing stories. The Greek nut bars are a great pick for a hike or a lunchbox.
